Check your tire pressure. Cold weather may cause your tire pressure to change.
Make sure you have a strong car battery. Car batteries may lose charge during the colder months.
Check your antifreeze levels. Adequate antifreeze will make sure your heater blows hot and your engine runs at the right temperature. If you placed only water in your coolant system during the summer, replace it with antifreeze. Water expands and may cause internal damage to your vehicle should it freeze.
Healthy tires. Bald and worn tires do not provide traction in the snow or ice. A healthy set of tires will prevent your car from loosing control.
